Activism Reflection

Brittney Woods

Activism can be described in many ways, but I would describe activism as taking actions for what you believe in and making it known to others around you. Activism gives inspiration that things can change if a stand is taken. When something needs to be done or changed you do it by talking about it; you get out and get active towards that change you’re trying to make. In past history our ancestors did not created change by sitting around, they created change being activist and bringing activism around the communities. The Million Man March, the Rosa Parks incident, bus boycotting and the sit-ins were all apart of activism that took place to make a change. Activism was important to our ancestors because they knew that by getting out and doing can only help better a situation; making people see the seriousness of the issue. Before I never really understood why activism was important, but being apart of the African American Experience has taught me to get active on issues I believe in. Being active helps voice your concerns, and help bring people together.
